Imaginet, based in Cardiff city-centre, fought off competition from international organisations including Hilton, Flybe and Thomson Holidays to win the Travel category at the New Media Age Effectiveness Awards for its work on the Chiltern Railways website.
The award ceremony took place at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday 26 June and was hosted by comedian David Mitchell.
The NMA award follows another recent award win for the same website. Last month, the agency won ‘Best Website’ in the Communicators in Business (CIB) awards, the UK’s biggest and most prestigious business communications awards.
Nigel Roberts, managing director of Imaginet, said,
"To win an NMA award and beat competition from companies such as Flybe and Hilton is a milestone for Imaginet, and is recognition of Wales’s growing reputation for leading the way in the new media industry.
"We are celebrating the company’s thirteenth birthday this year, so our double award win is a real testament to how much we have achieved.
"The Chiltern Railways website was one of the largest and highest profile projects we have worked on, and we’re really proud of the work we’ve done. Chiltern Railways is always keen to push the boundaries with its on-line communications and combined with our first rate technical and design skills, we've created a website that sets the benchmark in the sector."
The NMA judges
The site is a great example for other travel sites, with its innovative, superior and user-centric design boasting good integrated use of web and mobile technology.
The website contains innovative features including text alerts for passengers to notify them of any updates to their journey and a car share section. Visitors can personalise content in a ‘My Station’ section to include a live departure board, a Google map of the area, local weather from the MET office and local news alerts taken from a third party supplier.
Peter Owen, marketing director at Chiltern Railways said,
"This is fantastic news. We already know from passengers that they find our website easy to use and appreciate all the accurate and up-to-date information they can get from it. It’s good to know the experts hold it in such high regard too.
"I was especially pleased to see the judges highlight areas we are proudest of, such as the My Station sections, packed full of local information, and the car share scheme."
